Competing
To compete for Trinity you will need a singlet, (white with two maroon bands). If you want to buy your own, talk to one of the committee members at the next competition, or at training. Singlets cost €15. Jackets are maroon with crest on the front and your name on the right sleeve. These are ordered every year and usually cost about €45. Bags are maroon, with the name of the club on the side.
If you want to compete in AAI events as well as intervarsity ones, (for example so you can compete during the summer also) and want to join a club in Dublin we have associations with various AAI clubs. If you are a middle/long distance runner, Metro St Bridgets is Mick's club - ask him on a Monday or Saturday. Ask Tanya, JC, Stephen or Diarmuid if you're interested in joining Donore Harriers. If you are a sprinter / jumper and live southside, ask Joe or Lesley about DSD, if you live on the northside ask Louise or Ruth about Clonliffe Harriers.
Events Throughout the Year
DUHAC Cross Country Championships:
This is a mini intra-club race held in October or January. Everyone has a time handicap based on performances in training, meaning that first across the line doesn't necessarily win. A fun race, with the handicap giving everyone a chance to win.
Maynooth Road Relays:
An Intervarsity event that takes place in Maynooth College during November. It consists of 1-2-3-2-1 mile legs for the men and a 1-2-2-1 mile legs for the women. A fun event to start the season off with as we can enter as many team as we want. Followed by a club get-together in the Pavilion Bar.
Nenagh Indoor Track & Field:
An Intervarsity event which is held in early December. It is a two day event, (Fri/Sat) with Friday night spent in Limerick City. The 200m track gives exciting racing. A word of warning though, there is no heating so bring the Winter woollies!!.
Colours Cross Country:
This is a friendly race between U.C.D. and Trinity. The women's race is usually over two miles while the men's is usually over five miles. The event is held on Trinity's course in Santry woods. The hosts arrange a small get-together afterwards. The sole aim of this race is to finish ahead of U.C.D. (one way or another).
Intervarsity Cross Country:
This year it is being hosted by IT Carlow. The men's race is over 10kms while the women's is over 4kms. After the race there is a meal,
followed by a disco.
Colours Track & Field:
This is a friendly between U.C.D. and Trinity. The event is usually held in Belfield at the start of Trinity term and is used as a warm up for the main Track & Field Championships, which follow a few weeks later. The hosts arrange a small get-together afterwards.
Intervarsity Track & Field:
Trinity hosted this event in Santry in 2001. This year we will be travelling over to NUI Galway. It is a two day event with a meal and disco on the second night.
Trinity Relays:
This is an event open to all clubs in the country. It is held in College Park at the end of April or in early May. The unpredictable nature of relay racing combined with the grass track in College park make this event special.
Chariots of Fire:
This event is held during Trinity Week. It starts with your foot against the Rubricks. You run under the Campanile, around Front Square and finish under the Campanile. Prizes include Garden Party tickets and lots more. To keep with tradition the bells of the Campanile ring out across Front Square during the final. An excellent way to end the season as the winner is never certain due to the merciless cobble stones.
College Races:
These are held during Trinity Week in College Park and all students are welcome to compete. The serious events include 100m (M&W), 400m (M), 800m (W) and The College Mile (M), along with a huge range of novelty races, including the bicycle race and the Tug-of-War. This event is well sponsored and always has good prizes. A fun day immediately before the exams!!!
