Good morning everyone!

Hope your all making the most of this amazing running weather and the training for outdoors is going great :)

Just a couple of small notices this week:

1. CORE: Core class will be at the earlier time of 12 this week. This is to accommodate as many DUHAC'ers going to the talk in the sports centre. Unfortunately our amazing Claire can't make it this week, so I'll be taking the session. I will basically try replicate as much of Claires class as I can. Also if people can come already warmed up, we can get going 12 as it will only be a 45 minute class to give people time to get changed before the talk at 1.

2. TALK: So this is the talk I'm referring to, it seems like it could be very beneficial for us. There are a group of us going and if you can make it we'd recommend you go!

"Training Like a Sports Professional:
Getting YOUR Head Into The Right Space"
Delivered by Deirdre Cronnelly – Director

Location: Sports Centre Boardroom 1-2pm Friday March 30th
AFRESH – The Motivational Wellbeing Coaching Company

This 60 minute interactive session encourages you to consider how you
study and perform in college has similarities between sports professionals'
performances such as Ronan O'Gara, Johnny Sexton, Padraig
Harrington and Olive Loughnane to name but a few. The success of a
sports professional's performance depends greatly on getting into the
right headspace and this is determined on how they prepare and train
for the event mentally and physically. Whilst students studying for exams
do not need to attain the same level of physical fitness as sports
professionals, they do need to have a base level in order to be mentally
alert and resilient. This session will touch on the basic physical
requirements for students from a food, exercise and sleep perspective
and will focus primarily on how our practical day to day preparation
impacts our ability to get into the right head space and perform as top
class professionals in college and how reviewing post our
performance can significantly increase our chances of greater success
next time around.

3. VOLUNTEERS: Guys we are in need of volunteers for the inaugural 5km event that will be held on Tuesday the 3rd of April. Basically you will be required on that evening and for one prior safety brief that won't talk long. Your task will be to ensure people don't get in the way of the runners! I think there may be a fancy poloshirt in it for the volunteers. If your interested can you get back to myself, Paul ( ervinep@tcd.ie ) or Gar (dunneg1@tcd.ie) by the end of today please!!!!!!!! Its gonna be a great event so get involved! :):):)

4. SPRINTERS EXTRA TRAINING DAY: Given that outdoors is fast approaching, our other fantastic Claire is adding an extra session on a Friday, beginning at 6.15 in front of the PAV! All interested in gaining some speed are very welcome :)

That's all for now guys! Keep up the hard work, outdoors is gonna be spectacular!

Hey guys,

OK somehow it's that time of the year again! I have no idea where the last year has gone but anyway...

It's club AGM time!!

And this year's AGM is taking place on Wednesday the 4th of April most likely in the Moyne Institute (the building beside the Pav).

The venue and time still have to be confirmed but we will let you all know nearer the time.

The main reason for emailing you now is to get your nominations in for the committee for next year!

Below is a list of the committee positions, and brief description of what each involves. I have also put the name of this years committe member in for each of them, so if you have any more questions I'm sure everyone would be more than happy to answer them. So get your nominations in for any of the following positions....

Men's Athletics Captain/Club Captain: Responsible for the overall running of the club and the men's track&field as well as training at the track - Gar
Women's Athletics Captain: Responsible for the women's track&field as well as training at the track - Tal

Ordinary Committee Members(x3): three positions without specific responsibilities other than to help with the overall running of the club ie. training sessions and organisation of events etc. - Darragh, Yvonne and Ger

***NB All positions are not limited to the above. This is a very basic description and positions involve some overlap of responsibilities. Each position on the committee is important to the successful running of the club.

You can nominate whoever you feel would fulfill the role well. You can even nominate yourself!! The same person can be nominated for more than one position!

Please e-mail Arlene (oneillar@tcd.ie) ASAP with your nominations! The deadline for nominations is Friday 30th March!

Thanks,

Ciara

4Training Times and Volunteering
Posted by: Paul Ervine ervinep@tcd.ie on Wed Mar 14th 12:03:17 2012
Hey guys,

I hope you are all well. Just a quick email to keep you updated.

Training Times

A few people have been asking about training times lately so here is a reminder for you all.

Monday: 3/6 mile easy run, meet at sports centre reception at 6. Sprinters/Jumpers/Throwers are in Irishtown Stadium starting at 6.
Tuesday: Intervals on the cricket pitch, warm up at 6.10, session starts at 6.30
Wednesday: Easy run at 5 then Circuit training in the ancillary hall (sports centre) at 6
Thursday: Easy run at 6 from the sports centre. Anyone wanting to run in the outdoor intervarsities can also head to the track with with the sprinters at 6.
Friday: Core, ancillary hall at 1.
Saturday: Hill session in Phoenix Park 10:30 (meet at the magazine fort)
Sunday: Long run in the Phoenix Park 10:00 (meet at the front gate)

Due to this being St. Patrick’s weekend there will be no Sunday long run or Monday easy run this week.

It’s getting towards crunch time in the academic year but don’t let that put you off training. Physical activity is one of the best methods of relieving stress. Scheduling your day to include some form of exercise might just keep you sane as the pressure builds.

St. Patrick’s 5K Festival 2012

Mick Farrell our harriers coach is looking for volunteers to help out with the St Patrick's 5k this Sunday organised by MSB running club. It’s a great event that helps raise money for Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin as well as supporting up and coming athletes in Dublin. The race is the first of only three city street races being held in Dublin this year and as such requires plenty of stewards to help things flow on the day. Mick gives a great deal to the club so it would be fantastic if we could turn up in strong numbers to help support this event. Anyone wanting to volunteer should head up to the Mansion House on Dawson Street for 8:30 on Sunday Morning and make themselves known to one of the MSB organisers. Volunteers will be rewarded with a few goodies, a prime spot for watching the race, and some good Karma.

Alternatively, anyone wanting to run the race should follow this link.

That’s it for now guys.

See you all at training – Healthy body, healthy mind!

Paul.

5Cross Country Results, Strength training seminar
Posted by: Garret Dunne dunneg1@tcd.ie on Mon Mar 12th 09:34:25 2012
Dooooooooooooooooohacers,

As most of you know, Intervarsity XC was on this weekend. Well done to everyone who raced, supported, helped out and partied! Unbelievable race and an unbelievable night!!!!! Solid runs from all the lads on the men's team to earn them 5th over all. Huge shout out to our women's team, who came 3rd in a really competitive race!

Need I say it???

BEASTS

Also, ladies athletics captain Tal Coyle, competeting in the States, came 18th in the most recent Modern Pentathlon World Cup, her highest ever finish!!!! Absolutely massive result and great to see her in such good form.

Now its time to turn our attention to the track season, we have colours t&f coming up at the start of April (date to be confirmed soon) and Intervarsity T&F in Athlone on the 20th and 21st April. Sprinters should really start to put the head down now and get a few weeks of solid training in, any distance runners interested in running should get on to Paul and Rebecca about track sessions in irishtown.

Also coming up is a Strength Seminar with legendary coach, Micky Ruben. This is on Thursday 22nd March, in the Carlton Airport Hotel. Its e20 per head, but I should be able to get everyone a group rate of e17. Ruben has worked with olympic gold medalists Usain Bolt and Jeremy Wariner, and is currently coaching Asafa Powell and Nesta Carter. This is a great chance to get some insight into core, strength, weights and plyometric training that will definitely improve your running! There will be a group of us heading to this, anyone interested has to get back to me or Rebecca by Wednesday!!!!!!

That's all from me

I'll see all of you sexy runners out at the track

Garret Dunne
Athletics Captain
