Trinity College Dublin

Dublin University Harriers and Athletic Club

Sports Scholarships and Training Grants

All prospective athletes entering Trinity College are advised that there are several Sports Scholarships and Training Grants available for Sports men and women. These are funded by the Department of Sport and are awarded annually, for a period of twelve months, every December. Any athlete who thinks that they may be worthy of such an award should apply upon entering Trinity College. It should be pointed out that all applicants must be accepted for a course within Trinity College and that an application for a Sports Scholarship has no bearing on whether an applicant is accepted into Trinity College. Athletes already within Trinity College are reminded that these awards are open to both existing students within Trinity College and to students entering the College for the first time.

Applicants with an interest in athletics should note that by joining DUHAC they do not have to leave their existing club or compete for DUHAC and their existing club under the dual-rule. All members of DUHAC are free to compete for DUHAC in Intervarsity competition and for their existing club in non-Intervarsity competition. However all recipients of a Trinity College Sports Scholarship or Training Grant are obliged to compete for DUHAC in Intervarsity Competition, while still being able to competing for their existing club in non-Intervarsity competition. They are also strongly encouraged to compete for DUHAC in Colours Competition.

Two such examples would be:

  • Middle & Long Distance athletes are obliged to compete for DUHAC in the following Intervarsity competition: Road Relays, Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field.
  • Sprinters or Field event athletes are obliged to compete for DUHAC in the following Intervarsity competition: Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field.

Full details including application deadlines and application forms are available on the Department of Sport website.
